Almost every single time we go for a walk, my boys pick out a new walking stick. The back of my car is loaded with sticks that they have taken home. They are not loyal to just one stick that they bring to each hike; instead they prefer to hunt for a new one every time. Sometimes they work on one of their sticks when we get home. They like to strip the bark off with a rock. Then they add fun stuff to the walking sticks. Here are some ideas:
- Add colored duct tape where you put your hand to make gripping the stick easier.
- Nail a bottle cap to the bottom of the stick so it clicks when you walk
- Carve the stick or make notches in it to keep track of how many hikes you’ve done
